SIMPLE WEIGH™ Tongue Scale

The SIMPLE WEIGH™ gives trailer owners a direct mechanical measurement of tongue weight before towing. The scale supports up to 2,100 lb of tongue weight and requires no assembly.

For many bumper-pull trailers, tongue weight commonly falls around 10–15% of loaded trailer weight. Always follow the trailer manufacturer’s requirements for your setup.

Why Tongue Weight Matters

Too little tongue weight can contribute to trailer sway. Too much can overload towing components. Measure your loaded trailer’s tongue weight and compare it with the trailer, hitch, receiver, and tow-vehicle requirements before towing.

How to Measure Tongue Weight

  1. Park on a flat, level, solid surface. Chock and uncouple the trailer, then move the hitch ball clear of the coupler.
  2. Seat the scale fully inside the coupler socket, perpendicular to the ground. Keep the trailer parallel to the ground using suitable support blocks as directed in the instructions.
  3. Lower the tongue slowly onto the scale. Keep the jack foot within 1 inch of the ground; stabilizer jacks must not share the measured load.
  4. Read the approximate weight, then use the tongue jack to support the trailer securely before removing the scale.

What Tongue-Weight Range Should I Target?

For many bumper-pull trailers, 10–15% of loaded gross trailer weight is a common range. Follow the trailer manufacturer’s specific requirements and stay within every towing component’s rating.

How SIMPLE WEIGH Works

A mechanical spring indicates the load applied at the coupler. Readings are approximate, and the scale is not certified for trade.

Safety Instructions

  • Always chock the wheels.
  • Never retract the jack more than 1 inch above ground while weighing.
  • Never load, unload, or move cargo while the scale supports the tongue.
  • Measure only at a bumper-pull trailer’s socket-type coupler; do not use with fifth-wheel, gooseneck, or pintle couplers.
  • Remove the scale immediately after measuring and support the trailer with its jack.

Measure Before You Tow

Use a tongue-weight measurement as one part of checking your loaded towing setup. The number helps you evaluate load balance against the trailer and towing-equipment manufacturers’ requirements.

Use Your Loaded Trailer Weight

Check tongue weight with the trailer loaded for travel, including the supplies and cargo you actually carry. If you change the load, secure the trailer on its jack and remove the scale before moving cargo, then remeasure.

Understand the Towing Setup

Learn why tongue weight matters and compare your measurement with the ratings of your trailer, hitch, receiver, and tow vehicle.

Ready to Use

SIMPLE WEIGH requires no assembly. Read the supplied instructions before measuring, and use only at the coupler socket.
